Upcoming Race
Our next team event is the Newark Cherry Blossom 10K on April 19th. A team is forming now in the open womens division; that means any woman can participate on the team. All women are welcome regardless of your running pace. A carpool will leaving from the Highland Park Y at 8 a.m. Anyone interested in joining us, please let me know.
E-mail, A Great Way to Communicate
E-mail is becoming popular these days as a way to keep in touch with friends, family and co-workers. It is also a great way for the Sole Sisters to keep in touch. Any Sole Sisters that have an e-mail address are encouraged to let me know so that I can keep you up to date on upcoming events. Last year, I used the phone frequently and will continue to do so when necessary. However, I was hoping to reduce my phone use since my job is starting to make more demands this year. My e-mail address is jlt9237@ussmlt61.snads.philips.nl.
Send me an e-mail message to inform me of your availability for a particular race, to communicate ideas for the team or for any other reason. I would very much appreciate if any Sole Sister who has e-mail would let me know so that I can contact you in this manner instead of using the phone. Thank you in advance.
S.O.S.
The RVRR Sole Sisters had a very successful year in 1997 and I would like to see this continue. The only way we are going to make it happen is to show up at every race. Hopefully, the rest of you would like to see RVRR do well in the USATF racing circuit in 1998. In order to do this, Im going to need some help this year. My job is making some demands that has caused me to work longer hours and some weekends. However, I am dedicated to the team and would like to see continued success. Anyone who is willing to help with phone calls or team sign-ups at races, please come forward. Actually, if someone out there would like to co-captain the womens team that would be wonderful. I am open to all ideas and suggestions.
Strong Start for Sole Sisters
March 8th marked the date for the Newark Distance Classic (NDC), the first race of the USATF Team Championship series. Our women showed up in full force and walked away victorious. The masters team placed second out of three teams just 35 seconds behind Sneaker Factory. The open team placed third out of six teams. This is much improved over how we did at NDC last year, when our masters women placed fifth and our open women placed fourth.
The women that made this happen were Trink Poynter, Debra Martucci, Elaine McAvoy, Lois Brown-Klein, Pati Rosen, Jill Knorr, Myrna Rosal and Ginny Farrell. Also, Trink placed as second master. Debra placed as fifth master, and Elaine placed as sixth master. Way to go ladies!
