Doug Brown, 59, Blazes NJ Marathon @ 3:08!

By Chris Lehman & Paul Krentar

Doug only planned to do half the marathon. He post entered intending to run with Steve Fisher and Will DeRoberts and stop once they got back to the parking area. Steve didn't start, said it was to hot for him, so Doug ran with Will at his pace. When they reached thirteen miles Will was fading but Doug felt great so decided to keep on going and going and going gradually picking off people one by one. He put eight minutes on Will in the second half and if he'd run his own pace from the start he'd have been even faster. He hasn't done any runs longer than 13 miles but he has been doing a lot of doubles so his mileage is fairly high. He'll be 60 in a month.

NJ Marathon - Sunday, April 17:
Doug Brown 3:08:47 AG1
Mary Foley 3:58:27
JoAnn Coffee 4:17:25 AG1

Boston Marathon - Monday April 18:

East Brunswick Road Races Need Sponsors

By

When was the last time someone offered you the opportunity to solicit without the need for bail money?

Many of you have run at least one race. As you may know, the cost of even the most rudimentary support services for these events can run in the hundreds, to thousands, of dollars. There's insurance, traffic control and medical personnel, awards, and finish-line services to name just a few of the resources needed, and that's before any money is raised for charity. In fact, a race is like a wedding, only without the speach by the Best Man or the Macarena (though those of you who have seen me race probably think I'm doing the Macarena, for all the forward progress I make).

Entry fees the runner pays only cover a portion of the costs. Sponsorship is critical in brudging the gap, and without it most races wouldn't exist. Which finally leads me to the point of this post:

EBRR is looking for sponsors. Specifically, we are looking for people to lead the sponsorship effort. Several Race Committee members have been trying their hand at it and we feel the effort is best headed by someone with a Sales and Marketing background, or someone who wants to have a say in what logos go on the back of the shirt or what goes in the goodie bag, at the same time giving exposure to a company or product that supports a sport we believe in.

Whatever the reason, if you are interested please contact , the Race Director. I can't promise anyone will get married at the finish line on race day (unless you know something I don't) but I can promise sponsorship leads to success, and you'll be a big part of that success!
